Title:           Topological modular functors - mathematics of the quantum mind?

When:              10am, Wednesday 31st  August, 2005

Where:            Priestley  Blding, room 641

Abstract:

Microtubules are the most popular candidate locus for exotic quantum states in the human brain.
As the complete 3D atomic structure of the molecule is known, considerable scope for theoretical
investigation of the problem exists. After sketching some of the simpler models in the literature,
by way of introduction, I will describe in detail a model of anyonic quantum computation due to
the topologist Michael Freedman, and briefly discuss its biophysical plausibility as a model of the
microtubule.

All interested are invited to attend.
