Title: Quantum Walks and Dirac Equation
10am, Thursday 26th July, 2007
Priestley Building, room 140
Abstract:
It is shown that the free Dirac equation of a definite spin particle is
an appropriate limit of a coined discrete quantum walk on the line. The
origin of the Lorentz invariance in the continuum limit is examined, leading to
a characterization of quantum walks that are expected to lead to a relativistic
evolution. Furthermore, the asymptotic discrete walk evolution of a
localized walker state near the Dirac limit is examined and it is compared to
the corresponding asymptotic Dirac evolution.
All interested are invited to attend.
