Title: Exact solution of the open XXZ chain with general integrable boundary terms at roots of unity
11.00am Thursday, 4th January 2007
Priestley Blding, room 641
Abstract:
The open XXZ chain with general integrable boundary terms is a fundamental integrable model. However, for general values of the boundary parameters
(six altogether, three for each boundary), a Bethe Ansatz solution is not known, due mainly to the difficulty in constructing a pseudovacuum. In this talk I describe
a solution of this model when the bulk anisotropy parameter takes values corresponding to roots of unity, in which case the transfer matrix obeys a functional
equation of finite order. An unusual feature of this solution is that it involves multiple Q functions. I then use this solution, together with a certain string hypothesis,
to compute the boundary energy.
All interested are invited to attend.
