Joint Announcement
SciCADE99 ANODE99
Dear Colleague,

We wish to announce of two numerical analysis meetings:

  • SciCADE 99 , Fraser Island, Queensland, Australia,
    9 - 13 August 1999.

  • ANODE 99, Auckland, New Zealand,
    16 - 20 August 1999.

SciCADE99 is a continuation of the successful biennial conferences in scientific computing and differential equations, the last one of which was held in Grado, Italy in 1997.

ANODE99 is one of series of international workshops in numerical analysis held in Auckland over several years. It has been scheduled just after SciCADE 99 to give participants, especially those from the Northern Hemisphere, to be able to take part in both of them with minimal overall travel time and cost.

SciCADE99 and ANODE99 will each run for 5 consecutive weekdays, allowing ample time to travel between the two sites.

We very much hope you will take part in one or both of these

B. SciCADE99 Invited Speakers

  1. Professor John Butcher, Auckland, New Zealand
  2. Professor Ernst Hairer, Geneva, Switzerland
  3. Professor Tom Mitsui, Nagoya, Japan
  4. Professor Linda Petzold, Santa Barbara, U.S.A
  5. Professor Eckhard Platen, UTS Sydney, Australia
  6. Professor Marino Zennaro, Trieste, Italy

Linda Petzold, Marino Zennaro and Ernst Hairer have also accepted invitations to take part as invited speakers at ANODE99. Further information about the programme for this workshop will be made available as it develops.

C. Registration Costs

Registration will be able to be done electronically through the above web sites.
  • Early bird registration fee for SCICADE99 by May 1: $A300
  • Final registration fee for SCICADE99 by July 31: $A350
  • Student registration fee: $A100

  • Early bird registration fee for ANODE99 by May 1: $NZ250
  • Final registration fee for ANODE99 by July 31: $NZ300
  • Student registration fee: $NZ100

Note that, for both meetings, registration after 31 July will depend on availability of facilities

Note also that, at the time of writing, approximate exchange rates are: One Australian dollar = 0.65 US dollars = 0.37 British pounds One New Zealand dollar = 0.55 US dollars = 0.32 British pounds These rate are, of course, subject to change.

    D. Minisymposia sessions

In addition to the programme of invited lectures, most of SCICADE99 will be run as minisymposium sessions with up to three sessions in parallel. The morning sessions will generally be organised around five thirty minute presentations (including time for questions) and the afternoon sessions will generally consist of four thirty minute presentations (again including questions).

The scientific committee will invite a number of people to act as minisymposium organisers. They will be asked to contact potential speakers in their specialities and to put together the detailed programme for their minisymposium. Intending SciCADE99 participants who wish to present a 30 minute lecture but have not yet been approached by a minisymposium organiser are invited to approach a member of the scientific committee who will attempt to get them allocated to an existing minisymposium or to a general session.

    E. New Talent

There will be two new talent invited speakers with the same status as invited speakers. Those wishing to be considered for the new talent awards are invited to submit a manuscript to the conference organiser by May 1, 1999. The authors of the best two papers will then be asked to give invited lectures at SciCADE99. The criteria for eligibility are (i) candidates must be under 35 as of January 1 1999 and (ii) they should not have completed a PhD more than 4 years ago, that is from 1 january 1995.

    F. Programme information for ANODE99.

As indicated above, the detailed plans for this workshop are at an early stage of development. However, details will be announced through the webpage as they become known. Furthermore, potential participants are welcome at any time to make enquiries through the chair of the ANODE organising committee or through any other member of the organising committee listed in the web page.
